Melbourne-based dog trainer Chris Loverseed, founder of PK9 Gear, has produced a custom collar for Bussie, the dog belonging to American musician Jelly Roll. The collar was crafted in Melbourne from Italian vegetable-tanned leather using the same hand-cut, hand-stitched process behind every product in the PK9 Gear range.
PK9 Gear began as an offshoot of Loverseed's professional dog training business, Positive K9 Training, which grew to 17 staff and worked with more than 400 dogs each week. In that environment, Loverseed saw firsthand how quickly cheaply imported gear failed in day-to-day use, with cracked collars, corroded hardware, and failed stitching a regular occurrence.
Working with his partner Michelle, Loverseed began hand-sewing leads at home, using premium materials and a professional trainer's understanding of how gear performs on working dogs. That home-based project became PK9 Gear, a Melbourne-made line of collars, leads, and dog accessories now available across Australia and internationally.
The Bussie collar was produced to the same specifications as every other PK9 Gear product, with no separate celebrity range or upgraded materials.
PK9 Gear has also supplied collars for the canine ambassador at The Park Hyatt Melbourne, one of the city's landmark hotels. The brand's approach remains grounded in the practical questions Loverseed applied when he was still training dogs full time: whether the gear is strong enough, comfortable enough, and fits the dog correctly in day-to-day use.
PK9 Gear has been featured across major media in both the US & Australia. The full range is available at https://pk9gear.com.au.
